The Prospect

THE PROSPECT

Psalm 9: 10—Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Psalm 139: 13-17—For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

All of us, as barrel racers, have had to go hunting for what we hope will be the next great barrel horse.  In our pursuit we may look at some pretty sorry looking horses.  However, as we look at some of these scrawny, underweight creatures with dull coats and sad eyes we see something special.  As we gaze at them we begin to envision what they will become with some tender loving care.

That is just the way God sees us.  Not as what we are today but what we will become.  He even knew us before we are born and planned our days (Psalm 139: 13-16). All we have to do is seek His will for our lives and follow his plan.

We try to buy horses that we believe will become something special. However, sometimes they end up being rebellious and do not respond well to training.  They find a way to cheat a person every day.  Some people are that way also.  They rebel and do not want to follow what God may have planned for them.  They want to do things their own way.

When horses in training rebel I just wait them out.  I just keep asking for the same thing everyday until I get the correct response.  God is the same way with us. He will wait us out until we give him the correct response.

I have found out there are about 10% of the horses that just do not and never will respond to training.  No matter what a person tries or for how long the impulse to get along is just not in that particular horse.  There are people like that in the world too.  No matter how God tries to get their attention, no matter how much He shows His love to them, they think they don’t need Him.  These are the people we need to be in continual prayer for.  Just like the rebellious horse these people have no future and no hope.

If I have a horse that just does not want to get along during training the horse will sometimes loose its value.  The good news is if a person rejects God time and time again he will never loose his value in the Father’s eyes.  No matter what we do God is faithful and quick to forgive us and accept us with the open loving arms of a father.

Don’t ever, ever think or believe that there is anything so terrible that God will not forgive you.  Don’t ever think or believe that you are worthless.  In God’s eyes we are all precious.  God does not focus on what we are today but what we will become.  All we need to do is pay attention to the training.
