Reconciliation

RECONCILATION

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

NIV Version--Emphasis mine

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: the old has gone, the new has come!  All this is from God, who RECONCILED us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of    RECONCELLATION: That God was RECONCILING the world to himself in Christ, NOT COUNTING MAN’S SINS AGAINST THEM.  And he has committed to us the message of RECONCILIATION.  We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.  We implore you on Christ’s behalf:  BE RECONCILED TO GOD.  God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Every month I have to balance three check books.  Not that I like it that way but it must be done.  When a person balances a checkbook, after adding and subtracting and correcting all mistakes the balance in the checkbook must match the balance on the statement.  It is called “reconciling” the accounts.  If you subtract the balance on the statement from the balance you have in your checkbook you should have zero.

So lets say you get a little statement from the devil listing all your sins.  Satan tries his best to condemn you and make you feel not worthy of God’s love.  But the good news is when you have Christ as your savior you are a new creation.  Your “sin account” has a balance of zero because Christ died to reconcile that account and you can keep it at zero for everyday of your life here on earth.

When you accept Christ as your savior not only is your sin account wiped clean but you are too!  You become a new creation.  You become a new person.

There are many people that may read the devotionals I write that knew me “way back when”.  They new me before Christ (BC) and they know me now.  But they also know I am not the same person I was “way back when”.  That old person was put out of my life forever over 20 years ago.  I thank God everyday for calling me to Him and giving me the opportunity to be reconciled to Him.

I have lived on both sides of this fence.  Believe me this side is much easier.  I have a friend who will be with me beyond the end of my days here on the earth.  I have a counselor.  I have a comforter.

If God, through His son, can accept me He can forgive and accept anyone who is willing to give his or her heart to Him. You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be without fault.  You don’t have to be anything but yourself and willing to accept Jesus as the Son of God and as your savior.  God will see to the rest.  He will see to it that the old person is put off and a new person will emerge.

If you don’t believe me find that old Bible you haven’t seen for awhile (or a few years), dust it off and give it a good read.  Be RECONCILED to God today!  Bring that account down to zero!  Don’t just exist.  Really start to live!
