Basic Nutrition - What a Concept!

BASIC NUTRITION—WHAT A CONCEPT

Joshua 1: 8

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it DAY AND NIGHT, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.  THEN YOU WILL BE PROSPEROUS AND SUCCESSFUL.  Have I not commanded you?  BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS.  DO NOT BE TERRIFIED; DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED, FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD WILL BE WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO.

John 6: 35

Then Jesus declared. “I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will NEVER GO HUNGRY and he who believes in me will NEVER BE THIRSTY.

Being involved with what is considered high performance horses nutrition is constantly a consideration when trying to get the horses to perform at the highest level possible.  I consider all the new studies and continually visit with experts in the field of nutrition to be sure the horses are receiving the best possible diet.

The other day when doing some reading on new equine products God spoke to my heart and said “why don’t people pay this much attention to their spiritual nutrition?”  Wow!  What a concept.

I know people that only pay attention to the word of God on Sunday in church.  The rest of the week they believe they are “covered” because they gave God their hour.  What do you suppose would happen if they ate one good meal on Sunday and then did not eat another meal or consume any water or liquid of any type for the rest of the week?  I don’t think they would feel very good and their physical health would soon suffer.

If we only fed our horses one meal on one day of the week how long would they perform at their peak?  If we gave them one gallon of water on one day of the week how long do you think they would survive?

The bible tells us that Satan is like a lion prowling the earth seeking those he can destroy (I Peter 5:8).  It also tells us the way to defend ourselves is through the word of God and staying close to God.  God’s word is our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-18).  We need to stay nutritionally sound in our spiritual beings just like we do in our physical beings.  We do this by consuming (reading and meditating on) the word of God on a regular basis.  We can also do this by watching Christian teaching programs on TV.  We can read and study devotionals.  We can listen to tapes while driving.  We can visit Christian web sites.  There are tons of ways to feed your spirit.

I call it getting a little of God in me.  I need to get some God in me everyday.  I have programs I enjoy watching, devotionals I enjoy studying and tapes I enjoy listening to.  It is my spiritual bread and water.

I don’t do it because I am obligated to do it.  I do it to stay healthy.  I do it to arm myself for what I may face in my daily life on this earth.  I do it so when I do come under attach I have the spiritual health and strength to fight the good fight and not be weak.  I do it so I can stand firm.  I do it for the glory of God.  I do it so when I meet my Father in heaven He will say “will done good and faithful servant”.

Try getting a little God in you every day.  Make a habit of it.  I guarantee you will be filled with peace and joy and a healthy attitude.  You will have spiritual health.  Pay as much attention to your own nutrition as you do your horses.  Like I said earlier.  What a concept.
